Don’t Hate the Game, Hate the Player

The Cover Project + Universal Game Cases = OCD Geek Heaven!

I just found my new compulsive hobby!
I’m a bit of a freak and I hate to have games without boxes, manuals or covers. In fact I won’t buy an old game without these. That said even with the complete package you have to admit that the NES sleeves kinda suck, the SNES and GBA cardboard is a bit bland and so on and so forth…

In comes the Universal Game Case which, as the name applies, is a universal case for Genesis, NES, SNES… about the size of an old VHS… ($42 for 100 on this site).

But it gets even better is when you add The Cover Project to the mix which basically makes custom covers based on original NES, SNES and everything in between games made to fit Universal Game Cases.

And the result of that is this greatness:

Also you can do the same thing for you GBA collection by grabbing DS cases off of the Nintendo website ($7 for 10) which ends up looking like this:

The collection pics do not belong to me.

  2. Anyone know of a place I can buy DS cases without the need of a credit card? Paypal preferred.

    • I know the official Nintendo website sells them but I’m no sure if they take Paypal. Otherwise I would check eBay.

  3. Hey, what paper do you print your covers on?

Comment by Turbo Baby Puncher | June 28, 2010 | Reply

    • For now I use the paper that’s in the laser printer at work 🙂
I think I remember some people recommending glossy presentation paper. But your best bet is to check the site’s forums, they are filled with info.

      • also – I did the top two photos (SNES, Genesis and Sega CD). Not sure who did the bottom two but like I said I did a nice GBA collection, including a custom box for Wario Ware Twisted (got the idea from someone else).

  10. I Love it man, looks amazing, My Only Problem for me is I would Never put A Genesis cartridge in Anything besides a black case, Can U get the black version still?

I have seen links that are a few years old 4 the black version case, but no dice, were they disscontinued?

And Iam not they type of guy to go and use hashed up double DVD case, looks like crap In My Opinion.

    • I agree with you. I’m pretty anal as well and I’d much prefer them in black but they don’t make them like this anymore (as far as I know).
And one big gripe I have also is that there are no brackets to hold the manuals in those cases.
In any case it’s the best option for now.

  11. I have searched high & low for the correct measurements for the UGCs for covers to print at the correct size. Could you help? Do I need to resize the pic as well? I keep getting the edge of the cover cut off when it prints!

  14. Do NES games really fit? Everything I read just says SNES, N64, Genesis and CDs.

    Comment by GroovyBear | April 2, 2014 | Reply

    • From what I recall they fit but not by default. You have to cut a bit of plastic.
