Don’t Hate the Game, Hate the Player

American McGee’s Alice Sequel Confirmed!

thumb_49553Nine years! Nine long years I’ve been waiting for this! After playing Alice back in 2000 I was hooked completely by it’s ambiance and amazing voice-acting and I had been on the fence for the next American McGee project…. Very late indeed!

Sadly after being so excited about Oz (ooh how great that would have been, I can’t imagine what they would have come up with for the Scarecrow and “if only i had a heart“), the project got canceled. Then a bit out of the blue came Grimm which, after the excitement of the first minutes prove really lackluster. And now…at last!

I have two theories as to why this happened now. The first is that EA is planning to bank on the release of Tim Burton’s remake of Alice (which has the potential to be just as weird) and release the game around the same time as the movie. The second is more of a feeling than a fact, when Dead Space was released last year it reminded me of that late year 2000 when EA released Alice but also Clive Barker’s Undying, a lovely scary FPS with a great ambiance, within a few month of each other.
It made for a grittier and edgier EA more in tune with independent projects.

I can’t wait for more details and I hope that Chris Vrenna and Roger Jackson are back on the project. Please?..pretty please?

P.S: Did I mention I have all the action-figures from the game?

Jeff Kaplan Leaves for a New MMO

1001While the news that Blizzard is working on a new MMO isn’t exactly ‘news’ since rumors have been rempant ever since they posted new job offers for a “new MMO project” about two years ago.

However yesterday we got news that Jeff Kaplan, the lead designer on World of WarCraft, is effectively moving on to this new project. He will still keep an eye on his 11 million subscriber baby though.

No one knows exactly what the new project will be about since Blizzard has denied numerous time that it will be a World of StarCraft, or a project related to Diablo. Now I’d love to see Blizz try their hand at a Sci-Fi themed MMO and the potential battle between Star Wars: The Old Republic and World of StarCraft could be a fun one but aside from another brand new license there are still some old franchise that could fit the bill.

Lost Vikings is the first that pops to mind but I don’t see it and the protagonists would be too similar to the WarCraft Dwarves. One that could be really is Blackthorne, an old awesome game that came out on the PC and 32X. It was modern/futuristic, dark…in essence very different from WoW.

Anyway at this point it’s all wishful thinking so let’s wait and see…
