Don’t Hate the Game, Hate the Player

New Aliens Vs. Predator Screens and Teaser

SEGA unveiled their new AvP game with a few screenshots and a nice little teaser. From what we can see so far the game is coming along really well. I really like the stylized art of the screens and the teaser sets the mood nicely.

The game is developed by Rebellion who worked on the orignal Alien Vs. Predator game in 1999. It will apparently be part of a series of Alien-based titles that SEGA bought the rights to from 20th Century Fox.

You will be able to play through three seperate campaigns for the Space Marine, Alien and Predator which will interconnect. There will also be a 3-way multiplayer mode to slay each other to our hearts content.

The game is set to release on PS3, 360 and PC in early 2010.

RetroBeats RPG Tour Year 1 – Dragon Quest Out!

rbeats-banner

This time I’m taking a look at the other great contender for the biggest RPG franchise: Dragon Quest (know as Dragon Warrior in the U.S.) which was released in 1986 by Enix.

The soundtrack was composed by Koichi Sugiyama. He worked almost only on this series including original versions and symphonic suites but has composed some scores for anime such as Gatchaman and Space Runaway Ideon.

Check it on Retroware TV.

Next Kojima Game Keeps Teasing….Sort Of

So last week we just got a stormy background and people started speculating that it could be the next Metal Gear game since it had been rumored that Raiden might be the hero of this one and raiden means thunder in Japanese. Good idea but nothing more until recently.

Now the site features a countdown to Thursday 21st at 6:00pm. On a loop you can see a figure flashing which could either be a “5” or an “S”. Feeding the specualtions even more since gamer are praying for a Snatcher 2 game which is highly unlikely but one can hope.

Hideo Kojima has stated numerous time that he would not work on another Metal Gear title but I’m pretty sure come Thursday we will all know otherwise.

Until then let’s hope for Snatcher 2.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 Footage!

Alright guys, first of all I can’t guarantee if it’ll be pulled down like the FF XIII Demo gameplay but meanwhile some footage appears to have leaked on YouTube.

It’s a bit hard to tell if this is actual gameplay or just a cutscene but either way it looks nice. The game looks very different for the first Ubisoft title which had great success. It looks a lot like Assassin’s Creed but also from what, in my mind, Mirror’s Edge should have been, free roaming acrobatics. Jade also sports a Faith-like look.

In any case check it out while you can!

NIS Will Distribute Sakura Taisen in the U.S.

20081218saktaivFor more than 10 years now we’ve been waiting for someone to bring us a Sakura Taisen (know in the West as Sakura Wars) game. A decade later most of us were pretty much resigned to at best import the Japanese versions and use thousand of pages of script translation.

Well fear not my friends for the day has come, at last. NIS America (my rapidly becoming #1 developer) has decided to bring Sakura Wars V: So Long, My Love (Sakura Taisen V ~ Sarabada, Itoshiki Hito yo) to us unworthy Westerners on the Wii and PS2 this fall.

What makes this even cooler is that as usual with NIS we can expect dual voice-overs. Something which every developer should be doing by default!

Sakura Wars V was….. *drum roll*, the fifth in the series so it’ll be interesting to see if NIS America plans to brings us the other instalments of the series. Please pretty please?

3D Realms Shuts Down Forever

3drealmsAfter several reports yesterday it has been confirmed by 3D Realms webmaster Joe Siegler who said that “it’s not a maketing thing. It’s ture. I have nothing further to say at this time.”

The sad news doesn’t seem to affect Apogee Software, the portable branch of 3D Realms, and its development of Duke Nukem Trilogy.

The obvious irony is that involves Duke Nukem Forever, the longest running joke in the industry. While it still seems unlikely, the developer seemed to have made progress (relatively) recently with a trailer at then end of 2007. People would argue that a trailer after 10 years of development is in itself a joke and they couldn’t be faulted.

But the game is not necessarely dead and buried. Take Two, who was set to publish the game, now owns the rights to it. Which could mean speedier and more focused progress if they end up deciding to keep the project going.
